Philosophy and the process
At Ondo Sports, the trust and development of the athlete/coach relationship, working towards a common, clearly outlined goal, is the key to our coaching philosophy. We believe this is the best approach to coaching, and the best way to get the athlete onboard with the process and trusting your coach. Your happiness, enjoyment of sport, and fulfilment are the single most important factors in performance, and helping you to build an environment where you can thrive is the ultimate goal.
Whether you're training for your first 5 km, joining your first group ride, chasing a marathon PB, aiming for a pro contract, or dreaming of becoming a world champion, every training plan starts the same way. We take your goal, however big or small, break it down into its key components, and determine exactly how to prepare you physically and mentally for each one. From there, we build a long-term plan designed to deliver daily, manageable progress that adds up to meaningful performance gains.
This plan is designed to fit around your life, not the other way around. We build your training around your career, family, and social commitments, so that it complements your lifestyle rather than competing with it. Whether you’re a cyclist, a runner, the key to long-term progress is balance. By managing your training load alongside real-life demands, you’ll stay consistent, motivated, and injury-free. This approach isn’t just about getting fitter, it’s about sustainable improvement that helps you perform at your best and achieve your goals, on the bike, on the road, and beyond..
Meet the Coaches
Ewan Mackie
I’m a British road racer and UCI race winner, currently riding with The Leadout Academy and living in Belgium. As well as coaching, I also run a successful road team. After five years racing at the top international level with podiums and victories across Europe, I’ve learned what it really takes to compete with the best, and I love passing that knowledge on. Self-funding my racing and life in Belgium has helped me learn how to balance life, work and sport together, and given me an understanding of young riders leaving home to pursue a career in cycling.
Coaching has become just as rewarding for me as my own racing. Having worked with cyclists and triathletes across all ages, helping them achieve breakthrough performances, stand on national podiums, and simply enjoy their training more. My style combines technical skills, race awareness, and smart, focused training built around the Ondo Coaching Philosophy, making sure every session has a clear purpose.
Because I understand what it’s like to juggle racing, training, and everything life throws at you beyond sport, I keep my coaching practical, personal, and realistic. My approach is built around balance, helping you make real progress without losing the enjoyment of riding or running. Whether you’re an ambitious amateur chasing the next level, a junior stepping into national competition, or simply determined to achieve your own big goal, I’m here to help you unlock your full potential. I also hold NSPCC and DBS certification, ensuring I can work safely, responsibly, and effectively with under-18 athletes

I moved to Spain at eighteen years old, aided by the Dave Rayner Foundation, to pursue my dreams of being a professional cyclist. I split my time between winters working and training in the UK, then racing through summer in Spain. I have first hand experience of what Junior and U23 riders strive for, at the first rungs of the professional cycling ladder. Having been there, and done that, I have knowledge and an understanding you cannot get through a text book.
Having spent multiple years living and breathing the sport racing full time, taking wins, and a handful of jerseys along the way, I know what the sport takes. In my ten plus years of elite cycling, across multiple countries, competing in UCI and international level events, I have made all the mistakes, learnt from them, and developed into what it takes to compete and understand the sport. Based out of the Basque Country for seven seasons, now based in Ireland, I have been surrounded by cycling culture and professionalism while riding for multiple teams and being surrounded by riders from all over the world. I have a keen interest in sports science and physiology, which coupled with my first hand experience in the sport lends itself well to coaching.
Building an open and honest connection with my athletes is of upmost importance to me. Being a coach is a constant learning process and searching out the latest studies and research allows me to continually improve and stay at the forefront of training methods. Knowing that I do not know it all keeps the coaching challenging and unique problems and scenarios presented by athletes allows me to keep on learning and helping others. Expanding my knowledge through my athletes is a great perk of the job
